Krushevo — A World-Class Flying Destination
Krushevo is one of Europe’s standout destinations for cross-country paragliding. Located in southern North Macedonia in about 3 hours drive from Skopje, it has earned a strong reputation among pilots for its reliable weather, accessible flying conditions, and huge potential for progression.
The combination of wide grassy launches, gentle winds, and easy-to-understand weather patterns makes Krushevo especially attractive for beginner and intermediate pilots looking to build confidence and fly more consistently. The surrounding terrain also offers countless safe landing possibilities, helping pilots focus on learning, exploring, and enjoying long flights.
The wider region, known as Pelagonia, is the country’s largest flatland basin. Surrounded by mountain ranges on three sides and open toward Greece in the south, the area benefits from stable conditions and a pleasant Mediterranean influence.
Flying Conditions
The peak flying season in Krushevo runs through July and August, when conditions are at their most dependable for XC flying. Thermals usually begin developing late in the morning and remain active through the afternoon, often producing excellent flying opportunities until early evening.
Rain is uncommon during midsummer, with only occasional short showers, allowing for many flyable days throughout the season.
The prevailing airflow is typically from the northeast, although strong winds are unusual. Early in the day, lighter ridge conditions create a relaxed environment ideal for warm-up flights and skill development. As the day progresses, stronger thermals build over the flats, and sea air moving north from Greece can create impressive convergence lines for longer XC routes.
One of Krushevo’s greatest strengths is consistency. The weather is generally stable and predictable, making it possible to fly on most days during the season.
And with long sunny days at altitude, sun protection is highly recommended — bring sun protection cream, sunglasses, and a neck covering hat.
Launch Areas
The main launch in Krushevo is large, open, and designed for efficient operations, with enough space for multiple pilots to prepare and launch comfortably at the same time.
The take-off is grassy, well maintained, and includes shaded areas where pilots can wait comfortably before conditions switch on. Flying conditions usually begin building during the late morning, with the best thermalling conditions arriving around midday and continuing into the late afternoon.
Depending on the wind direction, both north and south launch options are available, allowing flexibility throughout changing conditions.
Landing Areas
One of the reasons Krushevo is so popular for progression flying is the exceptional availability of safe landing fields.
The bomb-out field is located right under the mountain, so even if you do not find any thermal you will safely land there. There are many other landable large grassy fields in any task direction.
The broad flatlands of the Pelagonia provide huge open areas with minimal valley wind influence, reducing stress for less experienced XC pilots. Whether flying locally or going cross-country, pilots are almost always within reach of suitable landing options.
For events and competitions, several large goal fields are also available, making retrieves and organisation straightforward.
Event Headquarters
Our headquarters are based at Hotel Montana Palace, overlooking the town and surrounding mountains. It is located in 40 min walk from the take offs. But for competitors we always provide comfortable busses.
It is the place for General safety briefing and educational meet-ups.
In the evenings, the hotel becomes a relaxed meeting point where everyone can unwind, exchange flight stories, and enjoy the social side of the camp after a full day in the air.
Discover the Town of Krushevo
At 1,350 metres above sea level, Krushevo is the highest town in the country and one of its most unique mountain destinations.
Beyond flying, the town is known for its history, culture, traditional architecture, and welcoming atmosphere. Walking through its steep cobbled streets, visitors discover colourful Balkan houses, Ottoman influences, mountain cafés, and panoramic views in every direction.
Krushevo played an important role in the 1903 Ilinden Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. Today, visitors can explore the iconic Ilinden Monument, also known as Makedonium, as well as museums dedicated to the region’s cultural and political history.
The town is also closely connected with Toše Proeski, one of the Balkans’ most admired musicians, whose memorial museum attracts visitors from across the region.
Balkan Food
Food in Krushevo is simple, fresh, and deeply rooted in local tradition. Pilots and visitors can enjoy classic Macedonian dishes including:

The area is also known for its dairy products and locally produced cheeses, which are a staple of the regional cuisine.
More Than Flying

The surrounding mountains feature scenic hiking and biking trails, while Krushevo Lake provides a peaceful place to relax during warmer days. In winter, the town transforms into a ski destination, giving Krushevo year-round appeal for adventure travellers.
